During what was described as a free consultation, I was pressured to sign a retainer agreement while still on the phone and was immediately charged a $5,000 deposit. I asked if I could have my daughter review the agreement and get back to him the following Monday, December 1st, but was told I had to decide immediately because attorney time could not be reserved otherwise. The attorney emphasized a “flat fee” structure, yet important terms—including an additional $15,000 fee if the case went to trial—were not clearly disclosed during the consultation. I was not given adequate time to review the agreement before being required to sign. After reviewing the agreement more carefully later that day, I requested to cancel and asked for my deposit to be refunded. The firm agreed to terminate representation but refused to return the $5,000, despite no documents being reviewed, no filings made, and no eviction process initiated. I recommend that anyone considering this firm carefully review all fee terms in advance and avoid signing any agreement under time pressure.
