Because our food establishment permit application was going to the county health department, we needed a licensed electrician's signed statement confirming that all outlets in our prep sinks were protected – and put our food prep areas at a minimum of 50 foot-candles – and finding someone with verifiable credentials who could turn this around quickly was harder than we'd hoped. We were so pleased with the speed of it all that the electrician's written certification with each individual test result was completed within 24 hours of our phone call, the health department set up the pre-opening inspection on the following week's calendar and we were finally awarded our permit just in time to open as scheduled on our given launch date.

We upgraded our old 100 amp main to a new 3.5 ton central AC unit and, after one week, the circuit breaker directory label that was on the inside of the main door panel had been victim of heat radiating off of the bus bars during peak load times in the afternoon. The electrician was able to increase the size of our service panel from 200 amp to 200 amp with an open panel, installed a new meter base, installed a new service entrance cable and we now had 14 circuit breaker slots available for use and the panel's operating temperature was only 39℃ and had combined AC and household load almost double the safe operating temperature — all while the bus bar remained at 81℃.

We would continually be fusing and re-fusing in particular when we had several items operating at the same time. The electrician informed the client of this and provided a correct contravention as opposed to a quick, simple patch-up job. In the years since, we can count on our fingers one and two the number of times one of our fuses has blown.

There wasn't a problem with our 3 way switch at the bottom of stairs, but there was a problem that the staircase light would randomly turn off while someone was using the stairs – a serious fall danger for our elderly mother, who uses the stairs several times a day. All the three-way switches were tested, traveler wires between the switches were inspected, it was found that the toggle mechanism inside the lower switch had worn and was vibrating over with the steps on the stairs and the traveler wires were replaced, and a commercial-spec switch with a positive locking toggle mechanism was installed in each of the 3-way switches. After using this staircase light four times in 4 months, our mom has safely and soundly used it without worry that the light will stop working mid-staircase.
